General Chemistry Labs is an independent collection of 14 lab experiments, created and extensively class-tested by the chemistry department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Suitable for any introductory chemistry lab sequence and available exclusively through WebAssign, each customizable experiment is supported by a collection of four types of questions, following the same consistent approach:
  • Prelab: Designed to prepare students for their actual lab work.
  • Inlab: Measurements and data can be entered into the inlab questions either during or after the actual lab session. Using a unique tool that analyzes student measurements for plausibility, each inlab question provides intelligent feedback to students, assessing their measurements and calculations independently so students can quickly ascertain where their confusion may lie.
  • Review: Follow-up questions that draw connections from what the student observed in the lab to the concepts being taught.
  • Quiz: Meant to test for comprehension.
