Excel File Format

Microsoft Excel files can be saved in different versions of the file format. WebAssign can read a Microsoft Excel file only if it is saved as an Excel 97-2003 Workbook.

You can usually identify the version of the file by its filename extension.

  • Filenames ending in.xlsx are saved in the later version and cannot be read by WebAssign.
  • Filenames ending in.xls are saved in the earlier version and can be read by WebAssign.

If needed, open the file in Excel and save it as Excel 97-2003 Workbook.
