You can copy and paste category average scores from a file to your GradeBook for categories, such as participation, for which no assignments exist.
- From the GradeBook, click Settings.
- Click the Categories tab.

At the top of the Categories
page, select an assignment category.
If the category you want to use is not listed, first add it to the GradeBook.

Set the GradeBook not to calculate averages for the category.
If WebAssign will calculate Category averages is shown, click Change, then OK to confirm.
WebAssign is not set to calculate Category averages is shown.
- Click Enter or Update Category Averages.

In Enter total value of this category, type the total
point value for the category.
For GradeBooks based on weighted category averages, the point value might be a percentage specified as a positive integer without the % sign.
- Select Copy and paste averages from a file on your computer.
- Click Next.

Download a category average template for your class.
Download the template to get a file — prepopulated with your students' information — formatted correctly for you to add category scores.
Note If you skip this step, you will need to create the file and add your students' information manually.Under Download Roster:
- Select fullname or student number if you want to include this information.
- Select the file extension to use for the downloaded file.

Click Download.
The file is downloaded as a tab-separated text file with the filename extension you selected.

Open the template file in your spreadsheet editor — both Excel and Google
Sheets work well — and add category scores.
Enter each student's category average score in the Average column. You can add scores only for one category at a time.
Scores must be numeric and specified as points out of the total point value.
Letter grades and missing scores are displayed as NA in WebAssign and are counted as 0 points.
For example:

Paste the copied data into the box.
Your data should be pasted as tab-delimited text.
If your data are not pasted correctly, save your spreadsheet as a tab-delimited text file, open the file with a text editor, and copy from that.
- Click Next.

Review the scores.
To make changes, you use your browser's Back button.
- Click Next.
- Optional: Click Update GradeBook.
