Earlier Releases

New features and resolved issues for earlier releases.

May 10, 2017

  • Fixed: Student answers to mathPad, calcPad®, and physPad® questions sometimes contained characters that couldn't be graded.

These characters were typically associated with non-English keyboard layouts or copying and pasting from other sources. Students are now warned when unsupported characters are detected.

January 20, 2017

  • Fixed: Students did not receive email notifications about upcoming due assignments.
  • Fixed: Extension policy changes were not saved.
  • Improved messaging for students who are not enrolled in a class.

November 2, 2016

This release adds advanced integration with Brightspace®, Canvas™, and Moodle™ courses for selected schools, moves learning management system (LMS) integration links on the Class Settings page to a new LMS Integration tab, and improves the payment reminder notification displayed to students.

Advanced LMS Integration

When enabled for your school, you can now choose either basic LMS integration or advanced LMS integration with Brightspace, Canvas, or Moodle. With advanced LMS integration, your students open WebAssign assignments directly from your LMS and student scores are synced back to the LMS.

In addition, all of the LMS integration links on the Class Settings page have moved to a new LMS Integration tab.

For more information, see Integration With Learning Management Systems.

Online Tutoring

Online tutoring with a third-party service is available for more courses.

Resolved Issues

Copied class sections that used the Bill Institution payment method did not copy the relevant billing details or notify course creators to enter billing information.

By default, copied class sections now require students to pay for access. If the original section used Bill Institution, a message lets the course creator know about the change and how to enable Bill Institution for the new section.

QQ-425

Release Highlights

Resolved Issues

Issue Summary Issue Numbers
Answers to numerical questions were graded incorrectly when the submitted answer contained a leading zero, for example, 01.25 instead of 1.25. LEGO-8472
Submitting saved work for a student was sometimes unsuccessful for assignments set to display one question at a time. QQ-123
The display order for assignments having the same due date was not preserved after rescheduling multiple assignments on the Reschedule Assignments page with the Multi-Select tool. LEGO-8327
The text of answer format tips displayed for numerical questions with fractions was confusing for some students. These were reworded for clarity. COMM-1165

December 16, 2015

This release addresses some issues affecting students and instructors. For instructors, it also enhances your ability to submit students' unsubmitted saved work after the due date.

Enhancements to Submitting Student's Saved Work

You can now submit a student's saved work even if the student submitted some work for the assignment. Your student's submitted work remains unchanged, but new saved work for unsubmitted question parts is submitted. If needed, you can also submit saved work multiple times. For more information, see Submit a Student's Saved Work.

Resolved Issues

Students who received a class key could sign up in WebAssign after the course ended, but would not have access to any courses.

Now, the class key does not work after the course ends and students are notified that the course has ended.

QQ-76
When working in mathPad, calcPad, or physPad, parentheses were automatically added for some functions, such as sin(), but your insertion point remained between the function and the left parenthesis. If you deleted the parentheses, it was possible to submit an answer that looked valid — such as sin 2x — but which contained no actual space between the function name and the operand, was ambiguous (did you mean sin(2)x?) and would not be graded correctly.

Now, the insertion point is placed within the parentheses to make it easier to type and reinforce that the parentheses are important to correctly delimit the operand of the function for grading.

LEGO-8185
When working in calcPad or physPad, vector bolding some characters resulted in the characters incorrectly being replaced with unexpected characters on submission. For example, a bolded uppercase F became 폿. LEGO-7941

November 9, 2015

This release replaces the MarvinSketch chemistry drawing tool with Marvin JS.

Marvin JS

  • Marvin JS does not require Java™, eliminating Java-related problems and improving browser compatibility.
  • All existing MarvinSketch questions now open in Marvin JS. MarvinSketch is no longer available.
  • Marvin JS grading algorithms are completely rewritten to correctly accept more equivalent student answers.
    Key grading improvements address:
    • equivalent structures with implicit/explicit hydrogen atoms
    • student answers specifying up or down wedge-dash bonds when the answer key is not specific
    • grading inconsistencies between different kinds of MarvinSketch questions
  • With Marvin JS, students draw structures in the assignment rather than in a new window.
