Marvin JS Answer Looks Correct But Marked Incorrect

Sometimes a Marvin JS answer that looks like the answer key is marked wrong.

Cause

This problem can happen because of structural problems like hidden atoms or incomplete bond patterns.

For example, a bond that looks like it ends at a particular atom might not be connected to it.

Resolution

  1. Click Edit Drawing, or click anywhere in the Marvin JS frame.

  2. Click the correct Marvin JS "cleanup" tool — either clean or clean 3D .

    These tools often reveal structural problems like hidden atoms or incomplete bond patterns.

    • Two-dimensional drawings: click clean .
    • Three-dimensional drawings: click clean 3D .
    Note Because this is a complex operation, the drawing might not be updated immediately.
