We have just released a significant improvement to rescoring assignments.
The Rescore link -- located near the top of every Scores page for a single assignment (for one or all students) -- has been changed to pop up a small window which gives you additional control over the rescore. You can choose which question(s) and students to rescore, and whether to consider last or best (all) submissions.
This new rescore tool will also solve the issue of browsers "timing-out" when trying to rescore a very large class/assignment.
Important point:
"Rescore best" works by setting an override for the last submission on any question part that was correct on a previous attempt. If a student then decides to submit that question part again with a new answer, they will lose this "earlier submission was correct" override and their new submission will be scored correct or incorrect as normal.
You can of course do another "rescore best" if needed.
