WebAssign—the leading service provider for online homework in higher education—is seeking an Agile Practices Manager to join our team. The Agile Practices Manager is responsible for establishing and nurturing WebAssign’s Agile development processes. The successful candidate will be a servant-leader, willing to put the glory of the team before his/her own. He or she will be responsible for refining WebAssign’s implementation of Scrum and Kanban, and will be expected to promote self-organization and self‐direction within the teams. This full-time role will be split between two sets of core responsibilities: Scrum Mastering at least one cross-functional development team and coaching part‐time Scrum Masters on other development teams.
Core Responsibilities
As Scrum Master
- Organize and facilitate release and sprint planning, release and sprint retrospectives, daily stand-ups, and inter-team dependency meetings.
- Ensure that impediments and distractions are removed.
- Track and communicate team velocity and progress of release and sprint.
- Maintain information radiators that keep stakeholders and developers informed.
- Coach team to become self-organized and able to hit commitments at high level of quality.
- Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution amongst team members.
- Publish and maintain Agile process documentation.
As Scrum Coach
- Be a company-wide advocate of Agile software development principles.
- Lead training workshops to teach developers and others at WebAssign about Agile development.
- Become an active member of the local and online Agile community.
- Help part-time Scrum Masters become more effective in their role.
- Ensure that process and communication methods are in place to identify and track dependencies between teams.
Required Skills and Experience
- Ability to coach Scrum teams to help them become high-performing teams
- In-depth, critical understanding of Agile software development principles and procedures
- Can work collaboratively, under little direction, with developers, product owners, HR managers, and other scrum masters
- At least 1 year of full-time scrum master experience and 3 years of project management experience
- Thorough understanding of SDLC
- High-level understanding of technical issues
- Servant-leader mindset and approach to leadership
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Ability to simultaneously scrum master multiple teams
- Experience with development in a LAMP environment
- Ability to incorporate Lean software development principles into Scrum framework
- 3+ years of full-time scrum master experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Certified Scrum Master or Professional Scrum Master certification
