Access Codes

Students must have an access code for each course that uses WebAssign. Note that this access code is not a password and is not required to log into WebAssign. Once registered, codes become part of a student's WebAssign account record and cannot be transferred to other students.

Types of Access Codes

There are four types of access codes.

Online access code purchased from your WebAssign homepage

If you purchase an access code online, it is automatically applied to your account. No additional action is required.

Scratch off the silver coating in the middle of the card to reveal a unique access code. The code has 2 or 3 letters followed by 10 or 11 numbers.

Obtaining Access Codes

Different classes and textbooks require different access codes, so it is always best to wait to purchase the access codes until classes start and you have verified the required codes for your courses. WebAssign allows you a 14-day grace period to view and complete your homework without an access code. After 14 days, you will need a valid access code or you will be locked out of that course in WebAssign.

Most codes are valid for one term. If a code is valid for a longer period of time, the duration is stated on the access code card.

There are four ways to get an access code.

  • Purchase with a textbook
Some textbooks are bundled with WebAssign access code cards. You will be prompted to enter the code after logging into WebAssign. Before opening the access code, ensure that you purchased the correct textbook by checking that the prefix for your access card matches the textbook. If they do not match, please make sure that you purchased the correct textbook. If you did, then ask your instructor to ensure that the correct textbook has been selected in WebAssign.
  • Purchase an access code card separately at your bookstore, and enter the code after logging into WebAssign.
For this option, please visit this page before going to the bookstore. The link allows you to easily find the matching prefix for your textbook title and ensure that you purchase the correct access code card. Please be sure that the card you purchase says "WebAssign" on it. If you purchase the wrong access code card, you will need to work directly with the bookstore to arrange an exchange or refund. Many bookstores will refuse returns if the access code cards have been opened, so please check the information carefully.
  • Purchase an access code online after logging into your WebAssign account.
This method is the easiest because WebAssign automatically provides a correct code for each course. A credit card is needed for this option.
  • Some institutions, particularly secondary schools, provide access code cards to students. Ask your instructor if you're unsure.

Refund Policy

If you drop a class, you can request a refund within 14 days of the online purchase date. Please contact us and include the transaction ID from your receipt or the name of the class to refund. Note: WebAssign cannot provide refunds for printed textbooks or access code cards purchased from your campus bookstore.
