Add Honor Code Certification to Assignments

Sometimes, you want your students to certify that they have completed an assignment on their own or that they have followed your school's honor code. You can add a question to your assignment that asks your students to certify that they have complied with an honor code or that they did not receive help with their assignment.

If needed, click Try the New Assignment Editor in the original Assignment Editor to enable this improved experience now.

You can use a generic honor code certification question like question ID 1455230, you can use an honor code certification question that was shared with you by another instructor, or you can create your own honor code certification question.

Create an honor code certification question

  1. Click Questions > Create.
    The Question Editor opens.
  2. For Name, type a question name, for example, Honor Code Certification.
  3. For Mode, select Multiple-Select.
  4. For Question, type the following characters: <_>
  5. For Answer, type the text of the certification statement, for example: 
    On my honor as a student, I have neither given nor received aid on 
this assignment/exam.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Note the number that is displayed in parentheses after the question name at the top of the page.
    This is the question ID.

    You can use the question ID to quickly add the question to your assignments, and you can give the question ID to other instructors if you would like to allow them to use your question on their assignments.

Add an honor code certification question to an assignment

  1. Expand the Questions section and click + Add Questions.
  2. If you know the question ID, type it in the quick search box image: search box and click go. Or, search or browse for the question.
  3. Click the name of a question or Add to add it to the list of assignment questions on the right.
  4. Click Save Assignment.
  5. Click Update Assignment at the bottom of the question summary.
    Important Your assignment is not changed until you click Update Assignment.

    The Question Browser closes and your changes are shown in the Assignment Editor.
